IT'S BEYOND A JOKE
Menopausal symptoms will affect 75% of women, with a quarter experiencing severe symptoms. And if you’re lucky enough to get HRT, it will set you back £225 a year.
So for World Menopause Month 2022, we brought together a group of comedians and celebs to show the lack of education and support for menopausal women is beyond a joke.
We put a twist on classic joke formats to show the treatment of menopausal women is absolutely laughable. We then had famous faces like Davina McCall, Naomi Watts, Rod Stewart and Jo Brand deliver the “gags” in a suitably deadpan fashion.
We even created a Menopause Mandate book and got it in the hands of key decision-makers in Parliament - like Labour leader Keir Starmer.
The campaign culminated in a rally outside Parliament, creating so much noise that it was covered by The BBC, ITV, The Daily Mail, The Telegraph, The Mirror, Metro, The Sun and Evening Standard.
Since the campaign, menopause has been debated 8 times in parliament - as opposed to once in the three years prior.
And in January 2023, the government changed the yearly cost of treatment from £225 to £18.70.
